XX and Butterfly (The Atrociously Late LOONA Theory Post)

Do you ever promise something with absolutely 0 hope of any follow through?  Well, that's been me with ever updating my poor LOONA theory. Its been 10 months since "Butterfly" was released, and I never did a follow up theory on it. Which has been awful for the one person who occasionally contacts me on my twitter asking for me to update. Well, here it is my friend. Sorry to have kept you waiting. Before I begin, I want to give you a little bit of an update of my life as to why this post hasn't happened. I've had all my notes since release, so there's very little room for an excuse, but I'm going to give you an excuse nonetheless. 2019 has been a year of immense change for me in my personal life. I've gone harder on the dating game since I actually have some semblance of order in my life now. I moved out of my parents house. Recently, I've started (or will start) a new job in the legal world. And my nails have never been longer so it ...

Nine's Top Kpop Songs of 2018 (Part 4)

Listen, I never promised consistency in posting.  I hope everyone had a good New Year's celebration. I drank a shit ton of wine, ate lobster, and smoked just the tiniest bit of weed while getting rejected by men on online dating sites. Here's hoping that in 2019 I can actually keep up with writing this blog.  20. To Heart - fromis_9 While the way I wrote about Glass Shoes  made it seem like that track was fromis_9's debut, they really didn't debut until January 2018 with To Heart . The track, for the most part, just sounds like a stereotypical APink-knockoff that wouldn't really turn heads. And it really didn't, considering that the song itself didn't have a lot of success. Now I like this song for a few reasons. Firstly, there's a real string section! You can hear real violins! It's fantastic. It's even lampshaded in the video itself with Gyuri playing the song on her violin. It's absolutely fantastic and sets the mood for the e...

Nine's Top Kpop Songs of 2018 (Part 3)

Yeah,  so I'm bad at remembering to write these out for whatever reason, so expect that these are going to worse and worse in quality as we get close to the end.  30. Crush - Weki Meki Ever since the group was announced, I've been in Week Meki's court. Doomed from the start, I was the only one who liked their debut track,   I Don't Like You Girlfriend , as it was critically panned by literally everyone. Their first comeback La La La fared no better in the eyes of the public. Crush , however, was a leap forward for them, even if it came at the cost of almost all originality. I can't believe that that's a good thing, but it is. There's really nothing super exciting about this song; it's a generic pop song that literally any other group could sing. It's saved from mediocrity due to Yoojung's great rapping; she really makes or breaks the track. In general, this song benefits from having a great hook in the chorus. It gets caught in yo...

Nine's Top Kpop Songs of 2018 (Part 2)

Okay bitches  here we go part 2 I definitely remembered to start writing this one up yup yup yup 40. Hi High - LOONA It saddens me that Hi High is so down low on this list, like FavOriTe before it, but honestly it's because LOONA's title track as a group have not lived up to the extraordinary hype of the solos. That isn't to say that these tracks aren't amazing, which in comparison to every other girl group they are, it's just that they don't match up to the solos (well, most of them). As far as LOONA songs go, this one is a little bit more generic, as the group aimed to go more public friendly with their debut. It's bright and airy and definitely a summertime song. It uses electronic sounds to create an almost magic effect (I mean that thematically). There's this rift that goes thorough the song that's just frantic and wonderful and gives a sense of both whimsy and fear. The bridge does a great job of slowing things down before it gets...

Nine's Top Kpop Songs of 2018 (Part 1)

Look here it is the post no one was waiting for. I've had this list assembled for about a week now, and I've just been too lazy to actually write out the blurbs for every song. Like last year, there will be 50 songs, and therefore 5 posts. I'm still debating on if I want to put my 10 honourable mentions or not, because honestly this list could have been a top 60. We'll see. This list will be updated daily over on my twitter as well. Before I begin, I just want to say a few things: I am working on a new LOONA theory, but it's taking awhile. I'm about 2000 words into it and only about an eighth of the way through the whole planned thing.  I am the mod over on the jbj subreddit , and would really appreciate some more active users, since I can only do so much and the sub is so dead. Yes, I'm kind of begging but whatever. If anyone who reads this is a Joyful I would greatly appreciate the help.  I am planning on this blog actually being active more in 2...

"FavOriTe", "Hi High", and the Complete Predebut Story of LOONA

I’ve been thinking a lot about “Hi High” and its place in LOONA’s lore. As this is LOONA’s debut as a full twelve-member group, I wanted to make sure that I put proper time and care into this theory so that it’s as cohesive as possible. I would have liked to get this done sooner, but honestly, it’s been difficult. I now work a full-time job, so making time to write out these theories has become harder. I am, however, committed to this, so better late than never. In regard to “FavOriTe”, I don’t think there’s much there in the way of lore or story. If I had to put it in the timeline, it would be the very last video story-wise. We see all the twelve girls together, and therefore we can assume that this video marks the end of their journey to find one another. If you have not yet watched either “FavOriTe” or “Hi High”, here are the link to watch them, which I highly recommend: Back to “Hi High”, I’m going to do things a little bit differently this time around. I’m goi...
